The Interface between DHB managed short term loan equipment and Ministry of Health purchased long term loan equipment has been an area of confusion and frustration for disabled people and the Allied Health professionals working in this area.

Without closer links and greater integration between long term and short term loan equipment provision, the sector is rapidly moving towards an unsustainable situation.

Enable New Zealand has worked closely with Southland District Health Board to develop a web based, inventory management system for short term loan equipment provision. This service now changes short term and long term equipment items 'behind the scenes' through an asset swap transaction. This seamless service to people who need long term equipment has delivered significant savings and efficiencies to Southland District Health Board.

Enable New Zealand is working with other District Health Boards to identify a range of opportunities to address the need for a nationally sustainable sector wide approach to inventory management of loan equipment.
