Can I get my vehicle modified?
Enable New Zealand deliver vehicle modification services on behalf of our funder Disability Support Services (part of the Ministry of Social Development). These services were previously funded through Whaikaha – Ministry of Disabled People.
If you are a New Zealand resident living in New Zealand and you have a long-term disability which is not covered by ACC, you may be able to get some funding assistance to ensure your vehicle meets your mobility needs.
Disability Support Services do offer funding for your current vehicle to be modified, for instance adding a wheelchair ramp. In a small number of cases, you may be eligible for a vehicle to be purchased for you which can be modified in the way you need.
Your eligibility for funding support to help to buy a vehicle will depend on your financial situation and your circumstances for needing the vehicle.
To be considered for funding for vehicle modifications, you will need to be assessed by a registered Vehicle Assessor.
