What are home modifications?
Home modifications are changes to your home to improve safety and accessibility for people with disabilities. These changes help people shower safely, cook, get inside, and do everyday tasks independently.
Examples of home modifications include:
Adding handrails by stairs, showers, or toilets.
Installing temporary wheelchair ramps, handheld showers, or security latches.
These are minor changes. Major modifications might include:
Moving a wall.
Installing a lift.
Changing plumbing systems.
Major modifications may need council consent.
You can make these changes yourself or seek funding from the Government or support organisations.
