Additional function to turn on for ACC equipment approvals

ACC and Enable New Zealand are turning on an ACC equipment approvals function for a limited number of non-list items on 4 December.

Turning this approvals function on is important due to the wide variety of equipment and other items which can be proposed under the ACC MRES service.

ACC and Enable New Zealand have collaborated to create a secure approvals process. This new process supports good ACC case oversight and streamlines the process for customers. Items which meet the new exception criteria will be sent by Enable New Zealand to ACC to get approval before being purchased.

ACC have worked closely with stakeholders and have identified a limited number of non-list items where ACC need to ensure there is clear injury related need, sufficient clinical support and alternatives on the list have been explored.

Through taking a trusted provider approach, the types of non-list equipment requiring approval have reduced since September 2022 when ACC approvals were last active. Automation will be implemented to increase efficiencies and the new process will also support increased customer privacy.
