Better equipment, better outcomes with ACC and Enable New Zealand
.webp)
ACC and Enable New Zealand are working together to help clients get the clinical expertise and quality equipment they deserve. Our partnership is making it more cost-effective to buy, supply, and repair rehabilitation equipment for New Zealanders, in response to the 120,000 requests made each year.
Enable is the Managed Rehabilitation Equipment Services (MRES) supplier for ACC. As part of this, we manage a list of commonly used items - often called the ‘MRES Equipment List’ or ‘ACC List’. This list includes equipment for most clients and situations, from standing aids to kitchen equipment.
The MRES Equipment List
The MRES Equipment List is one of the ways that Enable helps ACC keep costs down.
Enable has in-house subject matter experts who help choose the items to make sure they’re the best options available. We then negotiate competitive pricing from suppliers to help ACC deliver more equipment to more people.
The MRES Guidelines give five attributes of items on the List:
Readily available
Competitively priced
Durable and high quality
Able to be reused by many clients
Able to be repaired and maintained easily
Wherever possible, assessors should request equipment from this list. This helps ensure the equipment their client receives will be effective and of good quality. Plus, it will support other injured New Zealanders through refurbishment or other cost-savings.
In the 2024/5 financial year, refurbished equipment saved ACC more than $9.4 million (when comparing the cost to buy new with the cost to clean, repair, refurbish, and reissue).

Keeping the list effective and up-to-date
We are regularly reviewing this list to ensure that every item is of good quality, clinically appropriate, fits modern best-practice guidelines, and is in-line with the MRES guidelines. This review is led by our experts and includes consultation with assessors, equipment suppliers, and ACC. We also listen to feedback from our assessors and the ACC clients who use the equipment.
Our most recent review found 9 items that no longer fit within the MRES Guidelines. Assessor feedback in particular helped us find these items.
