DSS request for urgency
As you may be aware, Enable New Zealand is not an urgent service. In some exceptional circumstances, urgency can be considered. The information below explains how applications are processed and what is required for a request to be considered under urgency.
What does Priority One (P1) mean?
P1 does NOT mean urgent
P1 means the person meets the criteria for funding
All approved applications are P1
Applications are processed strictly in date order
Everyone on the waitlist is Priority 1. Having P1 status does not move an application ahead of others.
When can urgency be considered?
Urgency is only considered when there is:
Clear clinical urgency
Exceptional circumstances
Strong, evidence‑based clinical reasoning
Urgency is not automatic and must be actively requested.
How to request urgency consideration
Email: CSA@enable.co.nz
Subject: Application to be considered for urgency
Include the following information:
Client surname, initial, and NHI
Service Request Number (ENZ 2000XXXXXX)
Clear clinical justification, explaining:
Why the situation is urgent
Any deterioration or increased risk, and its impact
Why this request should be prioritised over others
What alternative strategies have already been considered
Important to know
Clinical justification must be robust and evidence‑based
If equipment is beyond economic repair but still usable, urgency will only be considered if there is clear clinical evidence that the need is greater than others on the waitlist
Even if urgency is approved:
Funding may not be immediately available
This depends on budget management constraints
We hope this information is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or need further clarification.
