Electric bed functions – an extension to the Trendelenburg article

Our Autumn Clinical Service Advisory (CSA) newsletter included a brief article on Trendelenburg positioning.

This piece was intended as a brief overview of one specific bed function, Trendelenburg. The article considered Trendelenburg as an isolated function and aimed to prompt clinical thinking and discussion about its role and use in different settings.

Clinically, Trendelenburg positioning can be used in conjunction with other positioning features or in isolation, and combined positioning approaches may be appropriate for some individuals. There are valid clinical indications for Trendelenburg positioning, and requests are considered on a case‑by‑case basis under the relevant criteria with clear clinical rationale and oversight.

Much of the available evidence relates to acute medical and surgical environments, reflecting the current limitations in community-based research. We value continued professional dialogue and collaboration as understanding and evidence in this area evolve.

The Clinical Service Advisory team intend to provide more education this year on bed functions and their clinical application. Please look out for this.
