A year of meaningful work: 2024-2025 Year in Review

We are delighted to announce the release of Enable New Zealand’s 2024–25 Year in Review.

This publication reflects the collective effort of our team, partners, and the wider disability community, and highlights the practical impact of our services across Aotearoa.

Reflecting on the Year

As our Chief Executive Scott Ambridge notes, this year has brought its share of challenges for the sector. “Despite these, Enable New Zealand’s team of over 200 have continued to deliver high quality services with commitment and professionalism. The focus has remained on finding solutions and improving the experience for disabled, injured and recovering people nationwide,” says Scott.

Kathryn Cook, Chair of the Enable New Zealand Board, points out that the achievements in this Year in Review are the result of many teams working together. “The organisation’s effectiveness is built on collaboration, careful stewardship, and a willingness to adapt,” says Kath.

What’s Inside

Our Enable NZ Year in Review covers a range of stories and initiatives, including:

  • Accessible Gaming Hub: In partnership with PlayStation New Zealand, our Firstport team launched the Accessible Gaming Hub, making gaming more accessible for disabled people. Community voices, like that of Kylee Black, highlight the value of adapting technology to individual needs.

  • Refurbishment programme:  Enable NZ’s refurbishment of tens of thousands of pieces of assistive technology each year continues to set a high standard for sustainability and access. The ongoing partnership with Parafed Manawatū ensures that sports wheelchairs are maintained and available for young athletes.

  • Stories from the people we’ve worked with:  We heard from people across New Zealand who receive support from, and work with, Enable New Zealand. These stories show the wide range of work we do - from outreach clinics and funding support to housing modifications and local group connection.

  • Team spotlights: Hear what it’s like to work at Enable NZ from staff members such as John Pureza, Terri Blackwell, Trace O’Neale, and Todd Clark.

  • Customer feedback: The introduction of the Voice of the Customer Survey has provided valuable insights, helping Enable New Zealand to identify what works well and where improvements can be made.

Acknowledging Contributions

The progress outlined in this Year in Review is the result of many people’s efforts: our team, customers, partners, and the wider disability community. The stories shared help us recognise that real change is most often achieved through steady, collaborative work rather than quick wins. Thank you to everyone who has contiributed to creating this reflection on Enable New Zealand July 2024- June 2025.
