Refreshing how assistive equipment is supplied in the community

Enable New Zealand has opened a Registration of Interest (ROI) for our Assistive Product Community Rehabilitation Equipment (APCRE) supplier panel. This is a first step in refreshing how assistive and community rehabilitation equipment is supplied across Aotearoa New Zealand.

This process is about making sure people who need equipment to support their independence, recovery, or daily living can access safe, reliable, and clinically suitable products, now and into the future.

What is assistive and community rehabilitation equipment?

Assistive and community rehabilitation equipment includes items that help people live independently or recover from injury or illness. This can include things like:

  • mobility equipment

  • daily living aids

  • seating and positioning supports

  • rehabilitation equipment used in the community

These products are used by people with disabilities, people recovering from injury, and others who need support to live well in their communities.

Enable New Zealand supplies, maintains, and repairs this equipment under contracts with organisations such as ACC, Disability Support Services, and Health New Zealand.

What is the APCRE supplier panel?

The APCRE supplier panel is a group of prequalified suppliers who provide equipment, parts, and related services to Enable New Zealand.

Having a panel helps us:

  • work with trusted suppliers

  • ensure continuity and reliability of supply

  • maintain safety, quality, and clinical standards

  • manage public funding responsibly

  • support sustainability and broader economic outcomes

Being on the panel does not automatically mean a supplier’s products are funded or selected. Instead, it allows suppliers to take part in future tenders or sourcing processes for specific product categories.

Why we are running a Registration of Interest

We are refreshing the APCRE panel to make sure it continues to meet current and future needs.

This includes:

  • improving transparency and accountability

  • strengthening governance and value for money

  • ensuring equipment meets real-world clinical needs

  • supporting refurbishment, reuse, and sustainability

  • contributing to wider benefits for New Zealand, such as regional employment and inclusive practices

The ROI allows suppliers to show how they can meet these expectations and work with us in a fair and open way.

What this means for the public

For people who use assistive equipment, or who support someone who does, this process helps ensure that:

  • equipment is safe, fit for purpose, and clinically appropriate

  • supply chains are reliable and responsive

  • public funding is used carefully and transparently

  • sustainability and reuse are built into how equipment is managed

The ROI does not change how people apply for or receive equipment. It focuses on how Enable New Zealand works with suppliers behind the scenes to support good outcomes.

Information for suppliers who may want to apply

The ROI is an open and competitive process and is the first step in a multistage procurement.

Key dates:

  • ROI released: 9 February 2026

  • Deadline for questions: 4:00 pm, 27 February 2026

  • Deadline for registrations: 4:00 pm, 13 March 2026

All registrations and questions must be submitted through the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS). This ensures the process is fair and consistent for all suppliers.

Suppliers who are shortlisted through the ROI will be invited to take part in the next stage of the procurement process.
